Night of Churches 2025, Prague – invitation to churches and prayer rooms

Invitation to churches and places of worship for the event “Night of the Churches”, which will take place on Friday, 23 May 2025, also in the capital city of Prague.

The first edition of the Night of Churches in 2009 involved 25 churches and this year more than 1,780 churches across the Czech Republic are preparing an extraordinary programme. This annual event opens the doors of many churches in Prague and across the Czech Republic from the afternoon until late in the evening. Each participating church prepares its own special program, which often includes:

  • Guided tours, which offer a look at the history and architecture of the church, often into normally inaccessible areas (e.g. the choir with organ, sacristy, towers, crypts).
  • Concerts of various genres, including organ music, classical ensembles and local choirs.
  • Exhibitions of sacred art, historical artefacts or contemporary works.
  • Theatrical performances or other artistic performances.
  • An opportunity to meet with clergy and learn more about the Christian faith.
  • Special activities for children and families.
  • Quizzes and competitions.

When will Church Night 2025 be?

Noc kostelů 2025 se uskuteční v pátek 23. května.

Combine a visit to Prague with a cruise on the Vltava River, which offers extraordinary views of historic sacral monuments

The boats sail past the most famous historical monuments of Prague, including the sacral ones. From the Vltava River you can enjoy a beautiful view of:

  • Charles Bridge with its baroque statues of saints.
  • Prague Castle with the Cathedral of St. Vitus, St. Wenceslas and St. Vojtěch, St. George’s Basilica and other chapels and churches. The view from the river to the monumental south front of the cathedral is impressive.
  • The Old Town Bridge Tower and the Lesser Town Bridge Tower, which once served as defensive elements and have sacral symbolism.
  • The Church of St. Nicholas in Mala Strana: Its massive dome and facade are very photogenic from the Vltava River.
  • The Church of St. Francis of Assisi near the Charles Bridge: its green dome is a distinctive element of the Prague skyline.
  • Monastery of St. Agnes of Bohemia: Although it is not directly on the bank, its silhouette is visible in some views from the river.

The theme of this year’s Night of Churches 2025 is hope

Time and time again, in conversations with people, I encounter fears about the future. To some extent I share them too, because as someone who has been involved in history all my life, many situations in the world today remind me of events in the first half of the 20th century. However, I have decided not to succumb to the anxiety arising from the state of the world and to try to find hope for myself and for others. ” Petr Vaďura, pastor of ECM Plzeň 3.
