Army on the Embankment 2025 – 80th anniversary of the end of World War II

The army will present itself in Prague in style. On Tuesday 20. 5. 2025, a spectacular “Army on the Embankment” will take place to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Soldiers jumping into the Vltava River, abseiling onto a pontoon and helicopters flying over.

The event, which takes place again after two years in the centre of the metropolis by the Vltava River, invites to a full-day programme full of dynamic demonstrations, military equipment and unique experiences. The event is held under the auspices of the Minister of Defence, the Mayor of the capital city of Prague, the Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic and the Mayor of the capital city of Prague. m. Prague, the mayors of Prague 2 and Prague 5.

“Visitors can look forward to paratroopers jumping from a helicopter into the Vltava River, special forces rappelling onto a pontoon and dynamic manoeuvres directly on the surface of the Vltava River between the railway and Palacký bridges,” says Daniela Hölzelová from the Communication Department of the Ministry of Defence. “The whole spectacle will be further enriched by a helicopter flyover,” she adds.

Military equipment will be on display on both banks of the Vltava River. You will be able to see a modern armoured vehicle TITUS, howitzer DANA, armoured personnel carrier Pandur, light combat vehicle Kajman, armoured ambulance, special vehicles of military chemists and other military equipment. For military history enthusiasts, there will be anti-aircraft guns, a Canadian Windsor Carrier Mk. I or GAZ AA truck.

“We want to introduce the public not only to modern military technology and the capabilities of our army, but also to commemorate the significant anniversary of the end of the Second World War,” says Hölzelová. “Eighty years of freedom is not a given, and with this event we want to pay tribute to all those who contributed to it,” she adds.

The programme will be enriched by the Military Police, Castle Guard, Honour Guard, Military Intelligence, Signal Troops and Active Reserve. For those interested in a military career, there will be a presentation of military schools. Those thinking about serving as a career soldier or in the active reserve will be able to visit the recruiting center and take physical tests. You will also be able to meet Olympic athletes from the Dukla Army Sports Centre. The programme will be complemented by the POKOS project and there will also be a real military goulash.
