Botanical Garden of the capital. m. Prague offers visitors evening guided walks through the darkened spaces of the Fata Morgana greenhouse, called The Jungle that does not sleep.
Evening tours are unique and provide a completely different experience to visitors than a daytime visit. The darkened greenhouse adds to the atmosphere of a real tropical rainforest. You can go on an adventurous expedition again from 17 January to 22 March. Evening guided tours take place on Fridays and Saturdays in six groups consecutively from 6pm to 9pm. You must reserve a place on the tour in advance. The evening jungle walk can also be a romantic surprise for Valentine’s Day. On Friday 14 February and Saturday 15 February, the Botanical Gardens will offer special Valentine’s Day tours for couples.
The Fata Morgana greenhouse does not fall asleep even in winter and has a lot to offer to visitors
It becomes an oasis full of green life and a climate of exotic landscapes. Visitors will get to know the plants of the dry tropics and subtropics, walk through the lowland rainforest where they can admire flowering begonias and orchids among the mature trees and palms, and end their journey in a section that presents the flora of the high mountains of South America, Asia and subtropical Africa. “Evening tours, aptly named The Jungle That Doesn’t Sleep, are one of the most popular events we offer in winter. We have been organising them for several years and every year around two thousand visitors take the opportunity to visit the exhibitions after dark. Those interested should definitely not hesitate to book, as the dates tend to fill up very quickly. We also offer special Valentine’s Day tours every year,” invites Bohumil Černý, Director of the Botanical Gardens of the Czech Republic, to the event. m. Prague.
During the evening walks through the exotic exhibitions, visitors can experience the atmosphere of a real jungle. The darkened corners, high humidity, unusual smells and sounds of the rainforest offer visitors a unique experience. The guide’s narration is accompanied by the loud “croaking” of the tropical greenhouse frogs (Eleutherodactylus planirostris). These are small, inconspicuous frogs native to Cuba, the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands. They are particularly interesting for their very loud nocturnal calls. The adult frog is no more than three centimetres long, jumps very well and spends most of its life in trees and taller shrubs.
Unusual guided tours of the Fata Morgana greenhouse will take place from 17 January to 22 March 2025 every Friday and Saturday at several times between 6pm and 9pm. Each lasts approximately one hour. You must reserve your place in advance by filling out a simple form on the Botanical Gardens website. An online ticket must also be purchased for the reserved time. Adults will pay 250 CZK for a tour as part of the Jungle That Doesn’t Sleep programme, children aged 3 to 15 years 150 CZK. Visitors should arrive at the greenhouse approximately ten minutes before the start time. There is room for a maximum of 18 people per group and due to the width of the paths in the greenhouse, it is not possible to take the tour with a stroller.
Valentine’s Day in the jungle for couples in love
On Valentine’s Day, i.e. on Friday 14 February and then on Saturday 15 February, couples in love can go to the dark jungle. During a tour of the Fata Morgana greenhouse, they will learn many interesting and piquant facts about the love life of plants, enjoy a glass of wine from St. Clare’s Vineyard and each lady will receive a rose. These tours are for adults only and the price of admission for the whole couple is 850 CZK. The Valentine’s Day evening tour through the Fata Morgana greenhouse must also be booked in advance on the event page of the Botanic Gardens website.
